Established in 1970 by wine industry pioneer David Hohnen, Cape Mentelle is one of Margaret River's founding wineries. Cabernet Sauvignon was the first varietal planted by the Hohnens in the 1970s and the Estate’s first wine, which was commercially released in 1976. Since then, Cabernet Sauvignon has been at the heart of Cape Mentelle from the inspired 1982-83 vintages that won consecutive Jimmy Watson awards and put the region on the map to the annual Great Cabernet Sauvignon tastings exploring great examples from around the globe. Retaining some typical dry bay leaf and tobacco notes, the wine displays black cherries, blackberries and wild bramble, complemented by focused tannins upfront that generously unravel into warm, supple mocha notes.
