King’s Mantle Shiraz is the crowning selection of the vintage. Exploring the length and breadth of the Barossa region, Krodorf Head Winemaker, Nick Badrice, identifies the finest and most expressive fruit of the vintage. This parcel of wine hails from 25 year old vines in the northern Barossa in the Ebenezer Koonunga district. Hand selected from Barossa’s finest parcels of fruit, the soil is red earth sandy loam over red clay with Ironstone interspersed throughout the profile. The flat landscape and consistent depth of soil result in wines with full, plush middle palate and fine velvety tannins. Harvested in late March 2019, thirty percent of the fruit is retained as whole bunches and left uncrushed. The fruit is then cold-soaked to pre-release colour and flavour precursors prior to primary fermentation, which ultimately delivers a complex array of flavours and textural complexity. The wine is then gently pressed into French oak barrels and matures in optimum conditions for a period of 18 months. Showcasing black forest fruits, plum and liquorice, earth, dark chocolate and spice aromas, this wine is plush and beautifully concentrated, showcasing purity and balance with subtlety of power creating a long and powerful finish.
